How Essential Oils Help the Mind, Body and Spirit

Essential Oils impact our moods and emotions. That is why they are an important tool for massage therapists since each oil possess its own healing power. Essential oils are considered the soul of the plants and we absorb their properties through respiratory or the skin. How do you determine which essential oil can help you?

Mental Rejuvenation

Every now and then we need to kick-start our brains. Working long hours on special projects at home or at work can leave you exhausted. There are a few essential oils that can combat mental exhaustion and help rejuvenate the brain.

  • Peppermint Oil is a great pick me up and is good for igniting enthusiasm and excitement.
  • Eucalyptus Oil can help you recover from mental fatigue and exhaustion. It is perfect for those that have just finished a big project.
  • Rosemary Oil can stimulate your mind and bring mental clarity. Through clarity comes improved memory.

Depression

If you suffer from depression or are overcoming depression, there are essential oils that can help ease your mind.

  • Peppermint Oil helps mentally stimulate you after a long period of depression.
  • Sandalwood Oil abates depression because it helps quiet the mind and your emotions.
  • Ylang-ylang Oil helps calm your nervous system and can ease the symptoms of depression.

I Just Want to Relax

Sometimes you just want to calm down and relax from the stress of life. Some of us just have a bad case of the nerves and need a little help calming down. There are several essential oils that can help with this:

  • Lavender Oil helps balance the mind and emotions. When the mind and emotions are in balance, you can ease irritability and feel calm.
  • Sandalwood Oil promotes relaxation because it helps quiet our overactive minds.
  • Ylang-ylang Oil calms the nervous system and helps reduce frustration.
  • Tangerine Oil calms the overactive nervous system.

Out with the Negative and In with the Positive

  • Rose Geranium Oil helps you with building your confidence.
  • Sandalwood Oil helps quiet the mind.
  • Orange Oil clears negative energy and allows the heart to open. Allows you to feel empathy for others.
Lavender is the most commonly used essential oil. It is a familiar scent that is widely used in soaps, lotions, shampoos, candles, etc. Each oil possesses its unique healing powers both physically and spiritually. I personally prefer the citrus essential oils and like to use orange. It inspires sensitivity and opens our hearts by clearing out our negative emotions.

Certain oils should not be used when pregnant or if you have certain health problems. If you decide you want to start incorporating essential oils into your daily life, it is important to do your research and talk to an expert. Massage therapists use essential oils to help enhance the massage experience.
