Our bodies try to communicate with us in various ways. If
something is out of balance, we may not be cognitively aware. Learning how to
listen to your body will help you catch serious illnesses early.
I’m Shrinking
Believe it or not, it is important to measure your height
and keep up with any changes. We stop growing in our late teens and early
twenties, but it is possible to start shrinking in our later years. Shrinking
can be a sign of Osteoporosis. The sooner you change your diet to include more
calcium, get outside for vitamin D and start on an exercise routine the better.
Sleeping Beauty
General fatigue is a side effect of several different
problems. Feeling tired all the time could be a warning that our thyroid is not
functioning properly. If you are in a stressful situation, fatigue can occur
because your hormones stay in a “fight or flight” mode all the time, leaving
you physically exhausted.
If you are on the go and stay busy from sunrise to the wee
hours of the morning, your exhaustion could be toxic. Your body may be working
too hard to process unhealthy foods, cigarettes, etc. Give your body a break,
drink water, get a massage to help your body release the toxins and work on
incorporating a healthier diet.
Listen to Your Urine
If your urine is dark yellow, that usually means you are
dehydrated. Incorporating water into your daily routine is essential to good
health. Caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate you as well, you may want to cut
back. Soda’s are made up of water, but keep in mind that your body still has to
process the sugars and phos acid.
Stop Scratching!
We often chalk up itching to bug bites and allergies. If you
continue to itch and it does not go away, the underlying problem may be liver
disease.
Chapped Lips
Chapped and cracking lips may be a sign of a B-vitamin
deficiency. Put away the chap stick and enjoy some crawfish or grilled fish to
help replenish your B12 stock!
Chapped lips can also be a sign of dehydration. Make sure
you are drinking plenty of water. The recommended amount of water is eight – 8
ounce glasses per day.
Remember do not self-diagnose. Listen to your body and visit
your doctor to confirm and treat any illnesses. The key to a happy life is to
maintain a healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise and massage.
