Massages are known for promoting relaxation and improving one’s overall
well-being. There are several methods of massage; all having great benefits for
your body.
Over the past decade massage therapy has become increasingly popular in
our society. I have seen the rise of several studios such as mine along with
big chain studios. There is also a misconception that massage is a luxury. You may be
surprised by the history and popularity of massage that dates back to 710 CE. For
the first thousand years massage was considered a form of medicine not a luxury.
The History
The main style of massage I offer is called anma massage. It’s a
traditional Japanese massage that involves kneading, rubbing, tapping, and
sometimes shaking. anma massage was developed in 1320 by Akashi Kan Ichi. During
the seventeenth century anma was popularized by the blind acupuncturist Sugiyama
Waichi. His skill was so well received, that he established multiple medical
schools that taught the practice of anma. For several years anma became the
primary discipline for the blind and sighted people were banned from practicing
anma. The practice of anma was lost for several years during the end of World
War II when General MacArthur banned the practice of it in Japan.
The Technique
Anma is considered a vigorous form of massage, with gripping movements
intended to increase blood flow to muscles and deep tissues. By activating the
flow of energy in your body, you can feel these benefits of anma:
- Balances Your Body
- Calms Irritated Nerves
- Reduces Tension
- Increases Circulation
- Enables your body to deeply relax
- Relief from “knots” in your shoulder, neck, and back
One of the main benefits of anma massage is the instant relief you will
feel from the techniques. Most of my clients feel the relief and increase in
blood flow while they are still on the massage table. Like all massages, the
goal is to leave you feeling refreshed and better than when you booked your
appointment! My hope is that I can provide you relief from pain and tension
caused from:
- Sedentary Lifestyle
- Hectic Lifestyle
- Anxiety | Stress
- Chronic Pain
I have spent several years studying and learning the complexities of anma,
making me the only specialist in the area.
